Dear Pat,
I have just finished reading Here and Now which I enjoyed very much and thank you for your stories, honesty and frankness. I was wondering if you had written any books on other subjects spiritual, life geometric etc as I think you have so much to offer the world and I would love to learn more. I am cuerrently studying your guitar books fundementals Linear, creative etc and I love your approach very much, you think so differently to other player, which is what makes you a genius. Just a big thank you for all you have shared with the world through music and your wonderful insights. All the very best David

Hi Pat, it’s been an entire year since you opened the Savannah jazz festival. Again, it was amazing just being in the room and taking in the vibration. Today, listened to you on youtube ; brought me right back to the vibe. Forever grateful for you, your music, your wisdom and teaching. Here is hoping you are well and enjoying the moments.

Sir; I have been a fan since the early 70's, when I first heard your album Joyous Lake played in it's entirety on a local Pittsburgh radio station. The story of your illness and re-emergence as a star guitarist inspired me to take up the guitar again after a 35 year hiatus. I'm not there yet, but I look forward to the time when I am sufficiently advanced to study your books and instruction videos. Thank you!!!!!!!

Hope you are well. I was so disheartened that you had to postpone your gigs, was planning on seeing you at Chris' Jazz in March. I've tried several times now to post a message, hope this one goes through. Please take good care of yourself, we need your brilliance and inspiration. Looking forward to our next encounter with anxious anticipation.

Pat - I was the producer for Guitar Masters in Tulsa a few years back. I am working on staging another guitar show with all the original players except Herb Ellis And Terry Holmes, both now in guitar heaven. Must be a helluva jam going on there. We have more than Guitar Masters in common. I had emergency brain surgery about 3 1/2 yrs ago. I have forgotten a lot, like how to play guitar, which really doesn't matter. Someone broke into my place while I was in the first hospital and stole my guitars and computer. I might get a pawn shop guitar after I finish ths current round of rehab.Your quintet sounds amazing. Looking forward to getting a copy soon. Be well and I will be in touch about the 2nd Guitar Masters. It will be a benefit to set-up a fund to provide scholships to kids going to our local university to study music. Tulsa University has jazz camp every summer and I would like to pay the tuition for one or two guitr students. Pat Kelley coms to town each year to teach.Happy bbelated birthday. I had one n the 14th

Hi Pat,
Just wanted to say thank you for your music being in my life- ItÂ’s gotten me through a really tough time, having gone through two devastating car accidents as well as a traumatic divorce from my first wife, all within a year of each other. The positive energy and sense of movement in the hard swinging lines that you play always remind me to look forward to the future and just keep swinging.

Dear Pat:
I just saw one of your classes on YouTube and I'm so glad you're continuing your fantastic musical journey through life. I'm also a guitarist (Classical and Jazz) and I played a number of years in Atlanta where I was fortunate enough to witness one of your live performances at The Great Southeast Music Hall with your "Joyous Lake" quartet late 70's/early 80's. I never forgot it! Even though I don't know you personally, the manner in which you share your knowledge inspires me to say, "I Love You, Pat". You can see some of what my 16-year-old son has helped me to present on YouTube at Fred Norman Guitarist. Thank you so very much and may God continue to bless you richly through this 2018 Holiday Season. Ciao!

Hi Mr Martino
I heard you play at Chris' in Philly last year. I have been a professional musician for 40 years and during that time have gathered TV, Broadway and International touring credits. I have also seen all the greats play because i lived in NY for 20 years. That being said, i was astounded by HOW MUCH GUITAR YOU PLAYED! It was truly masterful. I did get to talk to you briefly afterward and it was obvious how intellegent and sensitive you are. How refreshing and inspiring! I'm still thinking about it.
I have recenttly relocated to Philly amd would love to take guitar lessons. I want to work on tunes that I can acompany myself while singing. I am a percussionist/vocalist by trade but I do know some guitar also. It was my first instrument and I am very musical. Not enough to study with you but not a beginner either. Is there someone you can recommend in the Philly area that teaches.? A student of yours perhaps?
Thank you very much and I will look forward to your next Philly performance.
Best and wishing you continued good health

Hi Pat,
First time I heard your music was on Music Choice Jazz years ago with "El Hombre" from "Live At Yoshi's". Absolutely beautiful playing with an incredible energy to it. I bought that CD that same day. I've been listening to jazz quite a bit since my mid-teen years (I'm almost 53 now) and I REALLY like your playing style quite a bit. Your quiet pieces have a beautiful soulful sound to them as well. I've also been a keyboard player myself since I was a kid and savor to be able to at least approach your level of musicianship someday, too. I was trained in classical originally and didn't really get to try jazz until my 20's. I like how that genre very much to me speaks from the soul to the soul. Thank you so much for the AWESOME music and happy jamming! :)

Hi Pat,
My wife (Laurie) and I recently had the distinct pleasure of listening to you perform at the Crown Continent Guitar Festival, and also attended your master class presentation. Your music is incredibly nuanced and delightful. Your master class was a wonderful experience! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, but even more so for sharing yourself! Your wisdom and admonition to be present in the moment was powerfully communicated by the way in which you embodied what you were recommending. I can offer no higher praise than to say that you reminded me of the Dalai Lama in the way that you were powerfully present in the moment. Your kindness and equanimity were an oasis of compassionate kindness. 🙏

Mr. Martino --I just wanted to say "thank you" for being such an inspiration to my guitar playing. Since I first heard your interpretation of sound, I have sought to improve my own playing. More over, I am inspired by your intense and creative understanding of the guitar and the creation of harmony. But most of all, I value your input as a fellow human being, caught between physical finitude and infinite creativity! Your philosophy of music translates into a philosophy of life which is as profound as it is beautiful. Thank you for all you have shared.

I just wanted to say what a special thrill it was to be able to play and hang out with you at the Indy Jazz Fest. It's an experience I will always cherish. It was only the 3rd time I'd headlined at a jazz fest. I need to reach an acceptance that it's just not in my destiny to do many jazz gigs. Anyway, you don't want to hear me whine about no gigs. That meant so much to me when you told me you were happy to hear that I was on the festival. You're a true inspiration and I hope we can hang out and play together again sometime.

I loved your performance at the Transition Jazz Festival in Tivoli, Utrecht. I was simply amazed how you, at your age and health wise been true, still play the guitar so well and blazing fast. Hi Pat, it was absolutely joyous to sit and listen to you play today. It was the opening of the jazz festival, and you were the first act. It was a great set and an excellent beginning. I realized the first time I met you was in 1972 at Gerdes Folk City in the village. The last time I heard you live was in 1977 at the New School. You sat in with a big band. I had a copy of your book hoping for you to sign it; however I could not get to you. Oh well! Life is good. Pat, Juanita nd I truly sends love.

Street, (btw 8th ave, and Broadway). That neighborhood was my home base during my early years with Willis “Gatortail”Jackson, (bless his soul!) up in Harlem at 135th & 7th, (Smalls Paradise). I can’t imagine how much you’ve seen since then! Nonetheless, I send you my thanks for such a wonderful reminder, along with my best wishes, and warmest regards!

Hi Pat: My name is Johnny Signorelli (Johnny Stevens). I don't know if you recall sitting in at The Wagon Wheel on 45th Street - Manhattan, in the 60's. You would use my Gretsch (single pickup jazz body) and sit in with Bobby Blue and his band. You simply blew us away! Here was this young kid from Philly playing such great guitar. I went on to play with the FireFlies and organ Trios, like you) I also worked with Vince Strong Organ Trio near the Wagon Wheel. It was the early years of rock but you were playing solid jazz. I'm 80 now, and it's a pleasure to remember you in your early years - great playing!!

Hi Pat, so I have always loved to listen to jazz, but never learned to play the circle of 5ths. I learned your activities and they are magic and they work over circle of fifths jazz! Even though I know music theory, I don't know why the activities work and so I want to create my own activities, but I don't know how yet. You are great. Thanks for your activities!

To Mr.Pat Azzara Martino
Dear Pat,
I love listening to you talk about your life and experiences that you've endured
throughout your life. It is quite fascinating and so unreal to me, that you faced all of those challenges and be able to explain them with such intricate detail. I experienced a terrible accident when I was a teenager, at 14 years old in 1974. I had just finished elementary school grade 8, actually two weeks prior to graduation, which I did not attend because, my family and I were going to Italy on a three and a half month holiday, so when we arrived in Italy after one week into the holiday I was in a terrible motorcycle accident, I was hit by a car on the highway and went through the front wind shield and back out of the car onto the street landing inches away from a curb on the highway. I was not wearing a helmet. My mother came to the scene of the accident and there was blood scattered on the road and where I had landed. She had found one of my shoes on the other side of the highway. I was taken to the hospital before my parents had arrived at the scene of the accident, so you could just imagine what they thought. The car that hit me had spun around when trying to brake. This happened on a two lane highway a section where the roads are in between towns. What I was told is that the car behind the car that hit me, honked his horn to indicate to the driver in front to let him pass him, but he started to accelerate and there I was driving the motorcycle and got hit in action.
I was in a coma for just over a month, I had two broken legs, one of the legs was fractured and hanging with pins and big needles in a sling for a week before operation which a metal plate and screws were performed and put into my right leg. My school was notified about what had happened to me and this was announced over the P.A.in the morning before classes. I was told that sister Rosaline, the principle, yes she was a nun and very stern and strict. She had asked all the students to pray for me. When I awoke from the coma I had no recollection of any thing. I did not know where I was, what had happened, who all these strange people hovering over the hospital bed were. I felt like I had come out of one of the episodes from The Twilight Zone. What the hell just happened! wondering what happened to my hair it was gone shaved bald with many stitches to my head and face. I remember thinking I was in a bad dream or in parallel universe, everything felt so different and strange. I am lucky to be alive, that's what I was told by my family because they were told by doctors that I might never come out of the coma. VOILA. life has been extremely difficult and challenging, but still worth living amongst the living. Looking back on it all. LIVE IN THE MOMENT. I just want to add that you have given myself comfort with your music, your guitar playing, and being such a great human being. Looking forward to purchasing your book here and now.
Note I just lost my mom on jan.05 2018 she was a very special person ,and not because she\s my mom but because she treated every person with a smile and with loving care. bless you mom.
Thank You Mr. Pat Martino
PS if you could respond to me it would mean so much.
Also I would love to watch and listen to you play. any chance that you might come and play in Toronto, Canada or in and around Buffalo, New York
Thanks again Pat,
Your friend and fan

Hi Pat,
I was sitting right up front for your first set at Chris’ just after Thanksgiving. I was with Ron Hassinger and we enjoyed the performance immensely. Pat you are such an inspiration, I got off the stool tonight just shy of two hours of practice and thought of you as I often do knowing the amount of time you practice and dedication you have as a person and professional musician. As we age it doesn’t get any easier but watching you gives me such energy and encouragement. Thank you for your music and you spirit as both give me new renewed energy and musical influence. I continue to study your book since my lesson of a few years back and as you say “let the guitar teach you”. I wish you all the very best of health happiness and HIS blessings this new year and always. Best Tony Molino

Pat: I want to reiterate how much we enjoyed your outstanding first set at ChrisÂ’ last Saturday. The performances by you and the entire band were inspiring, and have given me many ideas to tap into in my own playing. I also donÂ’t think IÂ’ve ever seen a band so enjoy the music they were creating, especially your organist and drummer. A very hearty Thank You!

Hi Pat, What a great night on Saturday! The whole band was smokin', and you were on fire as always. Listened to Formidable twice already, so glad I could pick it up that night. The Great Stream was a special treat for me, first heard you play it live at Grendel's Lair in '73. Thanks for always taking a moment to chat. Looking forward to the next encounter. All the best, Pat.

Hi Pat-I met you backstage at Yoshi's when you recorded with Joey and Billy. It was a wonderful moment for me as I have followed your career since 1968. We talked about your 12 string you used on Desperado. I study that album lots and your ideas are the greatest. I met a pianist name Bobby Pierce who played very organistic lines-he said I grew up in Columbus with Don Patterson. Thanks much for your creativity and talent.

Dear Pat,
It was a privilege to attend your amazing performance tonight at the Moss theatre in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, and and honor to be able to meet you in person back stage afterward.
It was my goal for many years to return to the guitar one day. I have always enjoyed playing the guitar, and learning jazz improvisation seemed so complicated and demanding investment in appreciable time, that I thought it will not be attainable, until I discovered your two courses: The Nature of the Guitar, and Linear Progressions, which I am currently studying.
As I expressed to you tonight when we met, I am very interested to meet with you after I complete these two courses and had a chance to absorb and practice the material, for Few days of intensive study where we can spend something like two hours a day TBD.
It would be a dream come true to me to be able to study and learn from you.
Please advise,
With best regards,
-David.

I check regularely your tour plan (to see when you will be back in Europe!) and I saw the gigs you performed for two years as a quintet with Adam Niewood and Alex Norris. I am extremely curious to hear such an exciting combo, and I was wondering if we would have the chance to hear you with this line-up on our side of the ocean.... or to access in a near future to a recording? Do you plan publishing a record in quintet? It would be so great!

Hi Pat. I am 8 years old and a student of Tony Calabro. I have been learning the guitar for just over a year and I like your music. My favourite is Lazy Bird because of your fast and accurate picking. I am so appreciative that my teacher has recommended your music so I can aspire to be as good as you are. Thanks for all your wonderful songs.

I am still in awe of your performance last night at Cafe Pink House in Saratoga, CA. Mesmerizing and soulful, while technically superior in every way. Beautiful songs. And Hammond player and drummer were stunning as well. I'm going to practice some scales now.

Pat, it was an absolute honor and joy to see you again and chat in Napa after 45 years! As always, your playing and composing are inspirational. I sent your love to your nephew, Larry. I also posted pictures of your performance on our Jazz Guitar Addition FB page. I hope you come back to Blue Note Napa. Can't wait to see you again! Best Regards, Charlie

best wishes; ever thought about a Pat Martino Radio? it would take the decision-making out of listening to your beauty; please... so it can run all day without the choice of one piece or another

Hi Pat, I am a full time guitar player and had the pleasure of watching your video on True fire The Nature of Guitar. I will be working on it for a long time. In Summery you talked about your life and shared your personal life and feelings in a segment called “ What’s beneath the Stone”. Wow, I think you just changed my life, because of my own feelings towards guitar and the way I relate to the world, people as time goes by. All I know is that it was a very moving summery and I wanted to thank you for being so humble and open with your feelings and thoughts on you life. I hope that someday I can be a great guitar player although I am very lucky to be able to support myself playing guitar.

Mr Martino, you are, to me, the most respectable - other than great - jazz guitar player around. I was blown away by you with "Dreamsville" back in the old days. Now I just heard "Footprints" and a great nostalgia came over. As long as guys like you are around, jazz lives, against all odds.

Dear Pat,
I have enjoyed your music very much over the years and have many of your records, as well as those of artists you have worked with.
I recently did a blog post about a good shopping day in DC, where I picked up records by Trudy Pitts, Willis Jackson and Don Patterson that you played on.
If you would like to read it, go to joeleturner.wordpress.com.
Regardless, I wish you peace and good health.

Hey Pat,
I'm a 16 year old guitarist, and I'd like to say that you and Wes have been the biggest influences on my playing (Wes my technique and you my sound, if you can separate the two). In fact, your Impressions was the first jazz song I learned (I found a transcription online). 3 years in, I have just finished learning Passata on Guitar, and I'm moving onto learning Prelude from Starbright.
Thank you!
